The Rolex GMT-Master is one of the most iconic and recognisable sports watches ever made. Originally developed in the 1950s for international pilots, the GMT-Master allowed its wearer to keep track of multiple time zones, with the distinctive blue and red “Pepsi” bezel becoming one of the most famous designs in Rolex history.

The reference 16710 represents one of the best iterations of the GMT-Master II, perfectly balancing vintage styling with modern practicality. Introduced in 1989, it retained the classic 40mm Oyster case and aluminium bezel insert of earlier GMTs, while offering a sapphire crystal and an independently adjustable hour hand, allowing the wearer to set a second time zone with ease.

This example dates to 2000 and features the instantly recognisable Pepsi bezel, paired with the classic black dial and Oyster bracelet. Powered by the Rolex calibre 3185, the 16710 is robust, reliable and exceptionally wearable, while its slimmer proportions and aluminium bezel give it a distinctly different character to the ceramic GMT-Master II models that followed.

The significance of the Pepsi has only increased following Rolex’s discontinuation of the modern red and blue GMT-Master II in 2026. With the colour combination no longer represented in the current Rolex catalogue, earlier aluminium-bezel examples such as the 16710 have an even greater appeal as part of the model’s long history.

This watch is presented in excellent condition and is accompanied by its box, booklets and tag. Overall, an excellent superb example of one of Rolex’s great modern classics – instantly recognisable, very wearable and combining the charm of an older Rolex sports watch with all the modern practicality you could wish for.
