#41 - The Rolex Submariner 16610 Full Box & Papers Collector's Set 2007
The History— The Example
The Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic and recognisable wristwatches ever made. Introduced in 1953 as a purpose-built diving watch, its fundamental design has remained remarkably consistent ever since, becoming the blueprint for the modern sports watch and one of Rolex’s defining models.
The reference 16610 was introduced in 1988 and remained in production until 2010, making it one of the longest-running Submariner references. It represents a sweet spot in the model’s history, perfectly combining the classic proportions and aluminium bezel of earlier Submariners with the reliability and practicality of a modern Rolex.
At its heart is the automatic calibre 3135, one of Rolex’s most celebrated and dependable movements. By 2007, the 16610 had also evolved to feature solid end links and non-drilled lugs, giving the watch a more substantial feel while retaining the slimmer 40mm case profile that distinguishes it from the ceramic Submariners that followed.
This 2007 example is presented in excellent condition and, importantly, comes as a particularly complete collector’s set. It is accompanied by its original box, papers, booklets, tags, Rolex service guarantee and more – exactly the sort of set that is becoming increasingly difficult to find as these watches get older.
The 16610 remains one of the most versatile Submariners Rolex has ever produced: robust enough to wear every day, yet with the proportions, aluminium bezel and character of the pre-ceramic era. An excellent example of an increasingly appreciated modern classic.
