The Rolex Submariner is one of the most iconic and recognisable wristwatches ever made, and for many collectors the classic “No Date” Submariner represents the model in its purest form. The reference 14060, introduced in 1990, continued the lineage of legendary no-date references such as the 5512 and 5513, retaining their beautifully simple aesthetic while introducing the practicality of a sapphire crystal and modern automatic movement.

As a result, the 14060 occupies a sweet spot in Submariner history. Its 40mm Oyster case, aluminium bezel and clean two-line dial remain remarkably faithful to the vintage Submariners that preceded it, while offering the robustness and everyday usability of a considerably more modern Rolex. It is this combination that has made the reference increasingly appreciated by collectors.

This one dates to 1997 and is a notable example, having been sold through the official Rolex Certified Pre-Owned (CPO) programme in October 2024 for £9,500. It remains today in very clean, sharp condition.

The Rolex Certified Pre-Owned programme represents perhaps the ultimate reassurance when buying a pre-owned Rolex. Unlike an ordinary dealer-certified watch, every CPO example is officially authenticated by Rolex themselves. The watch returns to Rolex workshops where its configuration and components are rigorously checked, before being fully serviced and subjected to the demanding controls of Rolex’s after-sales service. Once approved, the watch is issued with a dedicated Rolex CPO box, pouch, guarantee card and accessories, along with a two-year international Rolex warranty from the date of sale.

Further adding to this example’s appeal, it has recently been back to Watches of Switzerland, an Official Rolex Retailer, where a fresh Rolex bezel insert was fitted. The accompanying receipt documents the work, and the watch also comes with the corresponding Watches of Switzerland and Rolex pouches. It is also accompanied by its Rolex CPO presentation box, leather pouch, CPO guarantee card, tags and booklets.

Finding a clean 1990s No Date Submariner is one thing; finding one that has passed through the official Rolex Certified Pre-Owned programme is another. This is an exceptional example of one of Rolex’s purest sports watches, combining the character of the great vintage no-date Submariners with modern usability and an unusually strong level of authentication, servicing and provenance.
