#22 - The Omega Speedmaster Professional 145.022-69 "Straight Writing"

The History— The Example

The Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch is one of the most important watches ever made, forever tied to its role as the first watch worn on the moon in 1969.

This reference 145.022-69 is known as the “Straight Writing”, named for the straight-line engraving on the caseback – a detail found only on a short production run and highly regarded by collectors. It also houses the calibre 861, the robust manual-wind movement that would go on to power Speedmasters through the later Apollo missions and beyond.

This is one of the most attractive vintage Speedmasters we have seen, presenting in cosmetically immaculate condition. It features a beautifully preserved stepped dial, with pleasing, even luminous patina, and a sharp, well-defined case.

Fitted with its correct Omega 1175/640 bracelet, and dated 3-71, it is further enhanced by being accompanied by a period Omega inner and outer box, making it a standout, highly collectible example from a pivotal moment in Speedmaster history.
